Expressionism, Contemporary Painting, Framed Abstract Art, “Zipped” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

This is a fun little mixed media painting that I did to hang as a group with several others, or it can stand alone. Lots of texture, some created with acrylic medium and a stencil to create a "zipper" effect, hence the title. The actual painting is 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 framed to 9 1/2 x 11 1/2.

Abstract Art, Contemporary Painting, “Wandering Companion” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

This is a companion piece to Wandering. They compliment each other and in this one I can see doors to wander through and explore.

Expressionism, Contemporary Painting, Mixed Media Art, “Hope” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

When doing abstract paintings one often "hopes" it turns out well. Lots of movement, drips and color in this one.

Expressionism, Contemporary Painting, Mixed Media Art, “Dance in the Rain” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

This is an acrylic painting using gesso to great texture prior to beginning. This is an interesting and complex painting with layers of colors glazed over stencils, some asemic writing, marks and with a little imagination (or perhaps a lot of imagination) rain drops are coming down.

Expressionism, Contemporary Painting, Mixed Media Art,“Four of a Kind” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

I liked this painting, but needed a title so I looked through a book I have on bridge and picked out a couple of bridge descriptions, hence the title Four of a Kind.

Expressionism, Contemporary Painting, Mixed Media Art,“The Hat in the Window” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

I couldn't resist a photo I found in a magazine of a hat sitting on top of a stack of wheat. I thought how intriguing if it were in a store window, hence my mixed media painting.

Expressionism, Contemporary Painting, Mixed Media Art, “Learn to Dance” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

Submit Gesso created texture to this painting as an under layer. A lot of interesting things are in this painting for the viewer to see the movements in this painting and the part circle reminded me of dancing. Many layers of color were glazed on to create dimension.
